Irving, TX — Ted Pine, age 86, a long-time resident of Montclair, NJ died October 25, 2010 at Silverado Senior Living - Valley Ranch in Irving, Texas.

Born in Brooklyn in 1924, Ted grew up in North Bergen, New Jersey where he developed his life-long love for tennis. Following graduation from high school, Ted enlisted and served in the US Army during World War II. Upon returning home, Ted enrolled in New York University where he graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Ted began a successful business career, which would see him founding and leading a specialty printing company, Springfield Gravure, then later successfully turning around and selling two established businesses in the chemicals industry.

In 1955, Ted married Dorothy Jean Holmes of Danville, IL and adopted her son, John, who was soon joined by two brothers, Ted and Phillip. The family settled in Springfield, Ohio before moving to Montclair, New Jersey in 1969, where Ted joined the Montclair Golf Club, and later, the Orange Lawn Tennis Club, continuing to play in tournaments and team matches throughout the New Jersey-New York metro area.

Retiring from his entrepreneurial career the late 1990s to concentrate on playing senior tennis tournaments, in 2004 Ted achieved the rank of #11 in the country in Men’s 75 Doubles with his partner Ed Kauder. Ted played tennis actively until early 2009, when he suffered the first of several strokes.

Mr. Pine is survived by his wife Jean and two children, Ted and Phil. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Kimberly, Kaitlin, Hazel, Tommy, Nolah, and Olive. Services will be held this Saturday, November 6 at 3:00pm at Aria Funeral Home in Dallas, TX, and he will be interred in the National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.
